Tired of pretending your uncle's dad jokes are funny at family gatherings? Well, buckle up buttercup, because Portland, Maine isn't just about lobster rolls and lighthouse tours anymore – they've got Empire Comedy Club, the crown jewel of chuckles in the arts district. 

Trust me, this isn't your typical "two-drink minimum in a basement" kind of joint. Empire Comedy Club is like that overachieving friend who always has to show everyone up – but in the best way possible. They've been collecting comedians like your aunt collects ceramic cats, and their roster is seriously impressive. 

Want names? Oh, they've got names. Casey Watson, a somewhat recently crowned king of New England comedy (yes, that's officially a thing – he won the competition in 2023), now calls Empire his home stage. Think of him as the club's adopted child who actually made something of himself. 

Then there's Preacher Lawson, who you might recognize from America's Got Talent or HBO's A Black Lady Sketch Show. And if you're a comedy nerd (no judgment, we're all friends here), you'll geek out knowing that legends like Rory Scovel, Kyle Kinane, and Joe Pera have all blessed their stage with their presence. 



But wait, there's more! (Sorry, couldn't resist the infomercial voice.) We've got local heroes too, like Mike Gray, whose dark humor makes Wednesday Addams look like a ray of sunshine, and Kaile Krenzer, who's been sharing stages with national headliners and making others look bad by being so darn talented.

Oh, and just to keep things interesting, they sometimes throw in shows like Magic Chunks – because apparently comedy alone wasn't enough, they had to go and add actual magic to the mix. Show-offs.
